CHILLIWACK — Chilliwack Fire Department, RCMP and B.C. Ambulance Service personnel were dispatched Monday afternoon (May 27) after a car reportedly wound up sideways in a ditch just off South Sumas Road near the road’s S-curve in Greendale.

According to a Chilliwack resident who wished to remain anonymous, the accident occurred sometime after 3:10 p.m., resulting in a vehicle submerged in a ditch.

A B.C. EHS spokesperson, Jodi Gillich, has since clarified that B.C. Ambulance Service paramedics received a call at exactly 2:38 p.m. Monday.

“BC Emergency Health Services received a call at 2:38 p.m. today about a motor-vehicle incident on South Sumas Road in Chilliwack,” Gillich wrote in an email to Fraser Valley Today. “Two ambulances were dispatched. Paramedics provided emergency medical treatment and transported one patient to hospital.”

One patient was transported to hospital. A tow truck also responded to the scene to remove the vehicle from the ditch. No air ambulance was involved in the aftermath of the crash.

Images shared by this Chilliwack resident indicate the road was temporarily blocked while first responders, including RCMP, firefighters and ambulance crews, processed the scene.

The anonymous Chilliwack resident, who lives in Greendale, says motorists have crashed at this sharp curve, where a 20 kilometre an hour sign warns drivers to slow down, on a few occasions in the past year.

“There are signs and no posts,” the resident told Fraser Valley Today. “The City has been proactive [about signage].”
