May 25, 2024 | 6:00 AM

CHILLIWACK — Parents will have an opportunity to guarantee their children’s car seats are installed correctly at a free car seat clinic today (May 25) in Chilliwack.

RCMP will be inspecting child car seats to ensure they have been installed into a vehicle correctly. Child passenger safety educaters will also be available to work with parents.

The inspections will run from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Bob Chan-Kent Family YMCA. No appointments are necessary. The checks will be conducted on a first-come, first-served basis.

ICBC says children in their first year and up to 20 lbs should be in a rear-facing car seat in the back seat of a vehicle. Children over the age of one and up to 40 lbs should be placed in a forward-facing car seat with a tether in the back seat. Children over 40 lbs but under 12 are required to sit in a booster seat in the back seat of a vehicle with a lap/shoulder seatbelt.
