CHILLIWACK – Now that it’s no longer permissible for substance users to openly do drugs in public, like smoking fentanyl or crack in public spaces, police once again have the authority to clean up the streets as needed.

Case in point, Chilliwack RCMP says two males were arrested over the long weekend after they were observed consuming illicit drugs on a sidewalk somewhere in the downtown Chilliwack area, according to a news release from Chilliwack RCMP spokesperson Corporal Carmen Kiener.

Police witnessed the two males in contravention of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act on Monday, May 20, at 12:01 p.m. The two males were approached by police and arrested under the act.

A subsequent search of the males located two replica firearms that were seized by Chilliwack RCMP.
