Last weekend for Mission residents to pick up free compost

May 18, 2024 | 6:00 AM

MISSION — Time is running out for Mission residents who are looking to pickup one free cubic yard of compost this spring from the Mission landfill. The offer opened April 1 and will continue until May 31. The deal is open to residents of Mission who live within and outside the curbside collection area.

You’ll need to pack the compost yourself so you will need to bring a shovel and suitable footwear and clothing with you. The landfill will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday but will be closed on Victoria Day.

Larger quantities of compost are also available for purchase directly from the landfill.

Compost can be used in a variety of ways around a yard. It can be used as mulch, added to potting soil or gardens. It can also be spread across lawns and worked into the soil around fruit trees.
