MISSION — When wildfires rage throughout British Columbia as they have for multiple, consecutive fire seasons, the role of a FireSmart coordinator becomes even more integral.

FireSmart principles have shown that they are effective at reducing the risk to life and property in the most extreme wildfire conditions.

To that end, Mission Fire Rescue Services says it has hired Maisyn as its 2024 FireSmart B.C. coordinator.

The full-time coordinator position is funded through a grant from Community Resiliency Investment FireSmart Community Funding and Supports. Maisyn will be providing FireSmart education and free home assessments to residents in the City of Mission.

Her duties will include organizing, planning, and hosting public workshops, forums, and demonstrations, attending events held by other parties such as life safety events put on by MFRS and seasonal city or neighbourhood events, developing and delivering social media messaging, and conducting direct resident engagement through door-knocking campaigns.

For more information on Mission’s FireSmart program, please contact Maisyn at firesmart@mission.ca. To sign up for a free home assessment, please fill out the form using the link provided: https://laserfiche.mission.ca/Forms/firesmart.
