**Update at 9:30 a.m.: Eastbound Highway 1 traffic is backed up 5-10 kilometres from between 200 Street and 216 Street in Langley due to a vehicle fire. Google Maps shows dark red between 200 and 216 Street. Eastbound on-ramp traffic is using the shoulder. Motorists should expect heavy delays.**

FRASER VALLEY — A vehicle fire has closed two lanes of eastbound Highway 1 through the Fraser Valley Wednesday morning.

According to a post on social media, DriveBC reported at 8:41 a.m. that a vehicle fire has the eastbound right and centre lanes at 216 Street closed. Crews were en route as of 8:41 a.m. and have likely already arrived as of 9:15 a.m.

First responders are on scene; motorists are urged to pass with caution and to expect “major delays” due to congestion.

An image shared by DriveBC shows heavy smoke billowing from a vehicle. It’s not known if the vehicle was a passenger car or commercial vehicle.
