Electric transit buses coming to Chilliwack

CHILLIWACK — Chilliwack is one of several B.C. communities that have been earmarked for new electric buses and charging infrastructure.

A news release from BC Transit says 66 electric buses are on order from two suppliers, Nova Bus and New Flyer.

In total, BC Transit says it expects to install 134 new electric bus charging stations over the next two years in Chilliwack, Kamloops, Kelowna, Nelson, Whistler, the Sunshine Coast and Vancouver Island.

The first of the new buses is scheduled to arrive in early 2025. All 66 new buses are expected to be in service by summer 2026.

Through nearly $400 million in funding made available by the federal, provincial and local governments, BC Transit says it expects to grow the electric bus fleet to 115.
