CHILLIWACK — Police haven’t released many details about the incident itself, but have confirmed that Chilliwack RCMP members accompanied members of the Emergency Response Team to a residence on Heath Road in Agassiz, close to the Petro-Canada gas station, Monday (May 6).

According to a brief statement from Corporal Carmen Kiener of the Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment, Mounties in Chilliwack were called to assist with a search warrant.

“I can confirm that Chilliwack RCMP members were at a location in Agassiz alongside ERT to execute a search warrant,” Cpl. Kiener told Fraser Valley Today in an email. “ERT attended out of an abundance of caution for police and public safety.

An Agassiz resident who wished to remain anonymous said she witnessed the ordeal that lasted at least an hour, during which time police used a flash bang and possibly a drone as they surrounded the home. The resident said police used a saw to break down the door in the 1700 block of Heath Road, said to be home to illicit activity. A male suspect later emerged from the home, but it’s not known if he was arrested or just detained temporarily.
