Weather Statement

Snowfall possible along mountain passes east of Fraser Valley through Monday

May 5, 2024 | 9:39 AM

VANCOUVER — Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement warning of the possibility of snowfall at higher elevations along highways east of Chilliwack.

The national weather agency says a frontal system is approaching B.C.’s southern coast on Sunday (May 5). It is expected to cross through the province tonight and leave the province by Monday evening.

The system is expected to produce snowfall along the Coquihalla Highway from Hope to Merritt, Highway 3 from Hope to Princeton via Allison Pass, and Highway 3 from the Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass.

Environment Canada warns drivers that weather conditions in the mountains can change suddenly and result in hazardous conditions. It suggests drivers who are planning to travel through the mountain passes Sunday through Monday, to keep an eye on DriveBC’s website to stay on top of the conditions.
