Gallery 7 Theatre to present final production of the season: The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time

ABBOTSFORD — The Gallery 7 Theatre season will culminate next month with the presentation of Mark Haddon’s work, “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time” as adapted for the stage by Simon Stephens. The production will run from May 17 to 25, 2024, at the Matsqui Centennial Auditorium.

The play has been the recipient of numerous awards, including 7 Olivier Awards and 5 Tony Awards. According to a news release from the theatre group, it’s been lauded by critics for its poignant exploration of adolescence, family dynamics, and the human experience.

“This kind of theatre really excites me,” said Managing Artistic Director Ken Hildebrandt. “This past year, we have been telling stories about the ups and downs of living in a community. This show brilliantly reflects this theme in that it tells a story of a young boy trying to find his place in his family, in his neighbourhood and in the world at large. It’s a highly theatrical show that explores finding hope, discovering potential, and living with limitations, all while underscoring the need for healing and reconciliation.“

The production follows fifteen-year-old Christopher, portrayed by newcomer Jay Tulip, as he grapples with the complexities of everyday life while attempting to unravel the mystery surrounding the death of his neighbor’s dog. Alongside Tulip, veteran actor John Dawson assumes the role of Christopher’s father, Ed, while Cara White portrays his mother, Judy. Elizabeth Seaman brings Christopher’s teacher, Siobhan, to life on stage.

Under the direction of Charlene Crawford, the production promises a unique perspective on Christopher’s worldview, emphasizing his affinity for mathematics as a lens through which he navigates the world.
