City of Mission begins work to update Official Community Plan

May 4, 2024 | 11:00 AM

MISSION — The City of Mission has launched its effort to update its Official Community Plan (OCP) and is inviting community members to contribute their insights and priorities through the ‘Engage Mission’ online survey.

The OCP serves as a crucial roadmap for the city’s responsible growth and development, outlining a vision for the future while guiding decision-making processes for Council, residents, and stakeholders involved in city-building efforts.

Mission Mayor Paul Horn says community engagement in shaping the city’s future is important if the plan is going to be successful. “It’s clear that our entire region is changing rapidly and that we must be prepared to address the opportunities and challenges that change will bring,” said Horn. “To do that well, we need to hear from the people of this community to set out our new Official Community Plan.”

The updated plan will allow new development and public investments to properly reflect the current priorities and values of the community. It will be a key planning tool to guide future development in Mission. In a news release, the City says the most recent OCP is five years old and in need of being updated to reflect changes in the community. The process of updating the plan is expected to take a year.
