CHILLIWACK — Provincial police say they’re looking for confident, considerate people to join their team of 9-1-1 police dispatchers at B.C. RCMP.

B.C. RCMP will hold a 9-1-1 police dispatcher recruiting session this Saturday, April 20 at the Sardis library, 5819 Tyson Road, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Of note to Chilliwack-area residents, 9-1-1 police dispatchers for the city of Chilliwack work out of B.C. RCMP headquarters in Surrey.

Some of the attributes B.C. RCMP seek in prospective dispatcher candidates:

  • You have a great attitude and willingness to do what it takes to get the job done and serve your community.
  • You have excellent communication skills and a strong ability to multi-task.
  • You are well organized and have great attention to detail.
  • You have an outstanding work ethic and enjoy working in a large team environment.

B.C. RCMP say police dispatchers act as a link between the public and police, playing an integral role in connecting people seeking help from Mounties during an emergency.

“Quite simply, 9-1-1 Police Dispatchers save lives,” B.C. RCMP wrote on its website. “We are an integral part of the team of first responders. We have a dedicated and hard-working team and we are looking for people who are seeking meaningful work.”

Police invite people to more about a day in the life of a 9-1-1 Police Dispatcher and discover the benefits of working in a police environment.
