Burnaby refinery resumes operations

BURNABY — The company that owns the Burnaby refinery that has been shut down since January says the plant has returned to normal operations.

Parkland Corp. says the refinery restarted operations on March 29 after an unplanned shutdown on January 12 due to extreme cold weather.

The January shutdown came after an issue at the refinery lead to an acrid odour blanketing parts of Metro Vancouver, although officials say contaminant levels did not breach pollution standards.

Parkland says the Burnaby refinery produces about 25 per cent of Greater Vancouver’s gasoline and about 30 per cent of the jet fuel for the Vancouver International Airport.
