“On March 31, 3024 the Chilliwack RCMP received a report of a single vehicle rollover in the 45700 Block of Yale Road, the overpass above the train tracks. Upon police attendance the male driver was located unresponsive and the female passenger had suffered minor injuries. Both occupants were transported to hospital, the male in serious condition. The collision generated damage to infrastructure and caused a large debris field which required the closure of Yale Road between Alexander Avenue and Hocking Avenue,” Cpl. Carmen Kiener said.

Neither speed nor alcohol are believed to be a contributing factor in this incident. Police say they won’t be releasing the names of the occupants of the vehicle at this time; the male driver remains in hospital in stable condition at the time of this release.**

Updated story below:

CHILLIWACK — A witness has come forward with his account of what happened in Sunday’s rollover incident on Yale Road that sent two people to hospital on Easter Sunday.

According to an emailed statement sent to Fraser Valley Today Monday morning (April 1), Clifton Humphrey says he was the first person to respond to the accident on Yale Road Sunday. Humphrey says he was traveling behind the vehicle when it veered off the right side of the road, hitting a pole.

“The car bounced off the pole back towards the road, probably 25 feet into the air, flipping several times until resting upside down,” Humphrey said. “The lady was conscious.”

Humphrey says he got onto his back on the ground, reaching inside the vehicle and releasing her seat belt.

“I was then able to get her out of the vehicle and over to the curb and sat her down,” Humphrey said, adding that he believes the woman’s husband may have had a medical episode leading up to the crash.

Humphrey said passersby attempted to help get the driver out, who was reportedly unresponsive with no pulse.

“At that time, the fire department was on scene and they took over,” Humphrey said. “They got him out and were giving him CPR. They were still giving him CPR after I gave a statement to the Chilliwack RCMP.”

Fraser Valley Today has reached out to the Chilliwack RCMP for information on Sunday’s vehicle accident on Yale Road.

A BC Emergency Health Services spokesperson told Fraser Valley Today over the phone at 3:44 p.m. Sunday afternoon that five ambulance units were dispatched to Yale Road for a motor vehicle incident. Two people were transported to hospital, including one in serious condition. The other person’s condition is not known.

One witness of the incident posted on Facebook that the motorist involved in the incident may have hit a pole and then rolled over.

Of note, Chilliwack RCMP have not released any findings in relation to the accident and have not publicly substantiated any witness statements on social media.
