UPDATE: 2 transported to hospital after fire engulfs trailer in Fairfield Island

CHILLIWACK — Chilliwack Fire Department crews were dispatched Saturday morning (Mar. 30) just before 9 a.m. for a fire that gutted a trailer at a home on Elgin Drive in Fairfield Island.

According to witnesses in the area, and a video posted on social media, black smoke billowed from a trailer at a home on Elgin Drive near Glasgow Street. Multiple engines from the Chilliwack Fire Department were dispatched.

Chilliwack RCMP and BC Emergency Health Services also attended.

Assistant Fire Chief Chris Wilson of the Chilliwack Fire Department says 12 firefighters from Halls 1 and 4 were dispatched for the report of a trailer fire. Crews quickly utilized hose lines and were able to knock down the fire and prevent it from spreading to nearby homes.

Two occupants of the trailer were able to escape the fire but were transported to hospital for smoke inhalation and minor injuries. There were no firefighter injuries associated with the trailer fire. The fire is under investigation by Chilliwack fire personnel.
