CHILLIWACK — Nearly a year after the food court closed for good, leaving Chilliwack seniors and families alike without a place to gather and dine, there’s word that two more restaurants are coming to the Cottonwood Centre mall in 2024.

John Chasmar, vice president of leasing for Warrington PCI, the company that manages the mall, confirmed in a phone call Monday (Mar. 18) afternoon with Fraser Valley Today that Opa! of Greece and Boardwalk Burgers should be open by the end of 2024.

Chasmar confirmed both restaurants have signed deals to operate in the mall.

Opa! of Greece sells souvlaki, pita wraps, salads and multi-item platters, while Boardwalk Burgers sells over a dozen different beef and chicken burgers combined, along with signature fries, onion rings and drinks.

Opa! and Boardwalk Burgers will be located near the forthcoming Sephora.

Additional retailers have committed to opening in Cottonwood mall, Chasmar confirmed. Boathouse, a retailer selling branded clothing and footwear for men and women, is set to open later this year. SnoreMD, a sleep apnea clinic, will tentatively open in spring 2025 in the current mall office next to TD Bank.

Up until spring 2023, the Cottonwood Centre food court had been a popular gathering spot for Chilliwack seniors to have coffee and fellowship with friends while watching CBC News headlines on two nearby TVs. In the past, seniors could be seen purchasing coffee at A&W or lining up for the cream of potato and bacon soup at 10 a.m. on weekday mornings at Cinnamon City cafe.

The food court was removed to make way for a B.C. Liquor store at Cottonwood. Chilliwack city council approved the issuance of a development permit at its meeting in January 2023 that enabled the construction of a new liquor store at the mall.
