Bad guy makes wrong turn and gets trapped on embankment in Mission

MISSION — A trio of break and enter suspects outwitted themselves recently while trying to evade authorities. In fact, if not for the help of firefighters, one of them could still be stuck on a dangerous ledge in Mission.

In a news release, RCMP say they were called to an unoccupied home around 12:30 a.m. on March 6. The home, in the 7200 block of Wren Street, was the subject of a suspected break-in. Police arrived and flushed out three men who they believed were only in the home for a few minutes.

A police perimeter had been set up as the suspects made a run for it down the street. A police dog team was used to find the men in a bushed area. One of the three had climbed down a steep embankment to escape police. When he realized it was too dangerous to go further he stopped. That’s when he realized it was also too dangerous to climb back up.

Members of the Mission Fire Department were called in to provide a ladder and allow the suspect to climb up into the waiting arms of RCMP officers. He and the other two suspects were arrested without further incident.
