**UPDATE at 1:20 p.m. Wednesday: Chilliwack RCMP say the driver of the red truck spotted driving on Chilliwack Central Road has come forward and is cooperating fully with police. As indicated in the initial media release, police said, the driver of the red truck is a witness to the incident and not involved in the male’s death.**

CHILLIWACK — Chilliwack RCMP say they’re asking for the public’s help in identifying the driver of a red vehicle in connection with the discovery of a man’s body in a drainage ditch on Chilliwack Central Road earlier this month.

According to a news release from Corporal Carmen Kiener, Mounties in Chilliwack responded on Saturday, February 17 to a report of a deceased male in a drainage ditch on Chilliwack Central Road between Prest Road and Broadway Avenue.

Cpl. Kiener says the Chilliwack RCMP General Investigation Support team has been working closely with the B.C. Coroner’s Office to identify the deceased male and conduct an investigation to ascertain the cause of death. The male has subsequently been identified but his name is not being released to the public at this time. The male was known to police.

The Chilliwack RCMP is now seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the driver of a red truck that was seen driving along Chilliwack Central Road on February 16, 2024 between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.

“We are treating the driver as a witness at this time and are urging them or the owner of the vehicle to come forward to assist us in advancing the investigation,” said Cpl. Kiener. “We are also seeking witnesses who may have seen the male walking along Chilliwack Central Road between Broadway Avenue and Prest Road during that time frame. The deceased male was wearing a black jacket, grey pants, and carrying a beige duffel bag.”
