ALLISON PASS/MANNING PARK — The B.C. Highway Patrol says a 59-year-old man from Maple Ridge has died following a multi-vehicle collision on Highway 3 approximately 55 kilometres southeast of Hope, amid poor winter driving conditions.

According to a statement from Corporal Melissa Jongema of the B.C. Highway Patrol, police say a multi-vehicle collision was reported on Sunday, February 25 at 12:22 p.m. near Allison Pass and Manning Park. Cpl. Jongema said preliminary information indicated weather conditions were extremely poor in the area of the crash that involved three vehicles, including a commercial vehicle.

The collision killed a 59-year-old man from Maple Ridge, Cpl. Jongema confirmed. The other two drivers suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

B.C. Highway Patrol Keremeos members responded to the scene as did Princeton RCMP members who were already dispatched to serious collisions in their service area.

The collision is still under investigation and criminality is not suspected, Cpl. Jongema said.

The Southeast District Collision Analyst and Reconstruction Service was contacted, though Cpl. Jongema said she is unable to contact the CARS investigator to confirm that they attended Sunday’s multi-vehicle crash.

BC Emergency Health Services says five ambulances were dispatched to the scene of a multi-vehicle incident off Highway 3, west of Manning Park. A spokesperson says BC EHS received a call at 12:31 p.m. Sunday, and BC EHS staff transported two individuals from the scene to the hospital for further care.
