CHILLIWACK — Quick work by the Chilliwack Fire Department was instrumental in limiting the spread of a house fire on Hymar Drive Tuesday night in Chilliwack.

According to a news release from Assistant Fire Chief Chris Wilson, the Chilliwack Fire Department was dispatched for a report of a structure fire in the 10100 block of Hymar Drive. Approximately 31 firefighters from Halls 1 (Cheam Avenue fire hall), 2 (Rosedale fire hall), 4 (South Sumas fire hall) and 6 (Yarrow fire hall) responded to the scene and located a single-family home with flames and smoke venting from the front of the residence.

Fire crews quickly deployed hose streams and took aggressive action to knock down the fire, Wilson said. After the fire was knocked down, crews began overhaul operations to ensure the fire had not spread beyond the area of origin.

There were no firefighter injuries. One occupant of the home received a minor burn and was treated at the scene by B.C. Emergency Health Services paramedics.

A photo shared by Chilliwack resident Julie Hiscock shows multiple, visible burn marks above a window and along the roof line. Parts of the front of the house have been boarded up due to fire damage.

The Chilliwack Emergency Support Services (ESS) team was deployed to the scene and provided emergency supports to the displaced occupants, which reportedly included a family of seven and a downstairs tenant.

This fire is under investigation by Chilliwack Fire Department personnel.

The home is currently for sale.
