RCMP arrest two male teens in South Surrey shooting, but release them without charges

SURREY — Mounties in Surrey announced Thursday that two 16-year-old males have been arrested in connection with a incident of shots fired at a residence in South Surrey this past week, but say the two teens have been released without any charges.

According to an update from the Surrey RCMP, police received a report of shots fired at a residence in the 2800 block of 154 Street on Friday, February 1 at 1:21 a.m. Frontline officers responded to the scene and discovered evidence consistent with a shooting. No injuries were reported.

Police maintained a presence in the area, examining the scene, speaking with witnesses and canvassing the neighbourhood for CCTV footage. The Surrey RCMP Major Crime Section has conduct of the investigation and investigators believe this was an isolated incident. Officers are still working to determine the motive of this incident.

On Wednesday, February 6, the Surrey RCMP Serious Crime Unit executed a search warrant on a residence in the 7700 block of 140 Street. Police confiscated three firearms and multiple electronic devices during the search. Two 16-year-old males from Surrey were arrested for careless use of a firearm and discharging a firearm with intent. However, police wrote in a news release that the youths were released without charges at this time.
