CHILLIWACK — Chilliwack Hospice Society has added a skilled social worker to its staff roster as the organization’s new palliative services manager.

Chilliwack Hospice announced in late January that Candice Quesnel has joined the organization, bringing a depth of knowledge from her Bachelor of Social Work degree and a diploma in social services with an Indigenous concentration.

In this pivotal role, Quesnel will be tasked with managing the training, support, and scheduling of the dedicated palliative care support volunteers at Cascade Hospice Residence, as well as rendering important support to palliative patients both in hospital and within the Chilliwack community. A key component of her role will also be to facilitate group work, including an emphasis on anticipatory grief and caregiver support, and enhancing the services already offered by the society’s grief support programs.

In addition to the aforementioned services, Chilliwack Hospice Society says Quesnel is slated to reintroduce vigil services, further enriching the care and support provided to individuals and families during the very last stages of life.

“Her new position marks a significant step in our commitment to delivering compassionate, empathetic, and comprehensive palliative care support services,” CHS said in a news release.

Chilliwack Hospice Society is a community-based volunteer organization which accepts death as a part of life. It supports individuals and families during the dying and grieving process, according to its website. It has been in operation since 1986.
