Federal NDP leader critical of Robinson’s ‘hurtful’ comment

OTTAWA — The leader of the federal N-D-P says comments by B-C’s minister of post-secondary education that Israel was founded on a — quote — “crappy piece of land” — are offensive and irresponsible.

Jagmeet Singh posted on Instagram that he has shared his concerns with B-C Premier David Eby, adding that the comments are deeply hurtful to many Canadians.

Minister Selina Robinson has apologized on social media for what she said, saying her comments were “disrespectful,” and she had been referring to limited natural resources on the land.

Eby has said the remarks were “totally unacceptable,” and “increase division” in the province at a time when people of Palestinian descent are feeling alienated.
