Chilliwack closes out 2023 with victory in Merritt

MERRITT — Brady Milburn scored his eighth goal of the season on a third period powerplay to lead the Chilliwack Chiefs to a 4 – 3 victory in Merritt Sunday afternoon.

The game began with a flurry of five goals in the first period, but settled down with just one goal in the second period and Milburn’s game winner in the third.

Savin Virk, Austin Peters and Mateo Mrsic also scored goals for the Chiefs, who outshot the hometown Centennials 36 – 31. Austin McNicholas earned the win in the Chiefs net.

With the win, Chilliwack continued to climb the Coastal Division standings. The Chiefs stand in fifth place but just three points behind the second place Nanaimo Clippers. Chilliwack will play its first game of 2024 Friday in Cowichan Valley.
