CHILLIWACK — Chilliwack Community Services announced Wednesday (Dec. 13) that it will create a brand new program, funded by the federal government, designed to provide transportation for seniors.

According to a news release from the non-profit organization, Chilliwack Community Services says STARS, or Seniors Transportation and Ride Service, will feature a new 12-person, wheelchair accessible shuttle bus, driven by a professional driver, for seniors who live in Chilliwack. The goal of the program, CCS says, will be to furnish safe, reliable transportation so that Chilliwack seniors can attend medical appointments, social outings and grocery shopping, within Chilliwack and Abbotsford.

“Seniors transportation has been a large challenge in our community these past few years,” said Sarah Woelders, senior services coordinator at CCS. “Many have gone without doctor visits or regular outings. The STARS program will offer reliable, safe transportation and improve the quality of life and overall health of our riders. We have spent a lot of time putting this program together and we are so excited to be able to offer this service to our community.”

Chilliwack Community Services (CCS) is a non-profit, accredited multi-service agency offering support-focused programming to people of all ages. For over 90 years, CCS has worked to address social and community needs in Chilliwack and the surrounding areas. CCS says the new STARS program will meet an underserved need in the Chilliwack community.
