BC Transit updates its fleet with 2 new light duty buses in Chilliwack
CHILLIWACK — BC Transit says two new light duty buses capable of transporting up to 16 seated passengers have been deployed to Chilliwack and are now being utilized in the local fleet.
According to a news release from BC Transit spokesperson Jamie Weiss, the new 26-foot light duty Arboc Spirit of Freedom buses provide flexibility for up to three mobility aids, like wheelchairs, for example.
Each bus is equipped with a white LED destination sign that clearly illuminates the bus number, route name and destination. The interior of the shuttles includes modern vinyl seating and enhanced interior lighting to make the overall commuting experience much more comfortable for riders.
The total cost for the two buses came in at just over $419,508, Weiss said. Funding arrangements involved a cost sharing agreement through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP), whereby eligible costs for infrastructure and fleet investments are shared between the government of Canada, the B.C. provincial government, local governments, and other partners.
