Heavy police presence fills downtown Chilliwack during incident Monday morning
CHILLIWACK — At least eight RCMP officers converged on a square block of downtown Chilliwack near Victoria and Nowell Street Monday morning, some with their long guns drawn, during a police incident.
Police blocked the intersection of Yale Road and Fletcher Avenue, Victoria and Nowell, and Fletcher and Victoria, near Domino’s Pizza during the unfolding incident.
Police surrounded a building at 9372 Fletcher Street and eventually had two people, including a male and a female, escorted from the building by police. The male wearing dark pants and a darker coloured jacket appeared to be carrying a two-litre bottle of Coke and something else in his right hand as an officer brought him to a police cruiser for questioning. The female in question had several tattoos on her torso and was wearing a black tank top. It did not appear that police handcuffed the male and female because they appeared to be compliant and not resisting police.
While police were interviewing the male and female from the building, a taller male with brown hair donning a black backpack had been standing near police in the middle of Victoria Avenue, near Victoria and Nowell. At some point, the male became agitated while speaking to police, possibly because they wanted to check his backpack, and RCMP officers subsequently handcuffed him and detained him. The male directed several epithets towards police as they sought to handcuff him and question him.
