Boil Water Advisory in Hope expected to remain in place for the week

HOPE — A boil water advisory remains in place in parts of Hope Monday, as officials continue to work on cleansing the system of E. coli bacteria that was discovered last week.

District of Hope spokesperson Gurvinder Sodhi says chlorine has been added to the water system in an effort to eliminate the harmful bacteria. Once the chlorine has passed through the system, the District will need three consecutive clean water tests before it will lift the boil water advisory. That could happen as early as Friday (Nov. 24).

Sodhi says the bacteria was discovered last week during regular weekly tests that are conducted on the drinking water system.

The boil water advisory covers the area identified in a map released by the district but does not affect Silver Creek, Lake of the Woods, East Kawkawa Lake and any private water systems.

The District says it will advise the public through its website and through social media channels when the water quality returns to safe levels.
