Chiefs beat Langley in overtime thriller
CHILLIWACK — Mateo Mrsic’s goal at 2:50 of overtime lifted the Chilliwack Chiefs to a 3 – 2 victory over the Langley Rivermen Friday (Nov. 18) night at the Chilliwack Coliseum.
Mrsic’s goal came while the Chiefs were on a rare overtime powerplay. Caleb Elfering and Savin Virk also scored goals for the Chiefs, who never led until the overtime winner. Oskar Komarov and Vitaly Levyy tallied for the Rivermen.
The game was tied at one after the first period and then tied at two after the second period. Despite outshooting Langley 12 – 2 in the third period, the Chiefs couldn’t beat Mason Beaupit in the Langley net in regulation time. Langley’s only two shots of the period came on breakaway that Vladimir Nikitin managed to stop. Overall, Chilliwack outshot Langley 42 – 20.
The Chiefs have little time to celebrate the victory. They’re back at it Saturday, hosting Powell River in a 6 p.m. start at the Coliseum.
