CHILLIWACK — Two fire departments in the Eastern Fraser Valley are looking for new recruits to join their largely volunteer ranks.

The Chilliwack River Valley Fire Department on Chilliwack Lake Road and the Harrison Hot Springs Fire Department both posted on social media in the past week that they are both looking for new recruits.

Chilliwack River Valley FD wrote on Facebook, “If you’re ready to be a part of something bigger, to learn new skills, and to keep the heart of the Chilliwack River Valley beating safe and sound, we want to hear from you.”

Applicants who are interested in volunteering with the Chilliwack River FD are invited to apply online by December 20 at https://www.fvrd.ca/…/fire-protection/Volunteer-ff.html.

As for the Harrison Hot Springs Fire Department, they’re actively looking for dedicated individuals to join their team to help serve the community and keep its citizens safe, according to a note on its Facebook page.

“We’re everyday men & women just like you. We’re servers, electricians, graphic designers, veterinarians, teachers, lawyers, construction workers, business owners, moms & dads. We’re your neighbours,” HHSFD wrote on Facebook. “And we want you to join us!”

HHSFD says it offers paid on-call positions, paid practice and training, and opportunities for people to practice lifesaving skills, learn, emergency operations, understand fire prevention and protect their community.

HHSFD volunteers do need to live in the greater Harrison Hot Springs community within an area between Rockwell Drive to the intersection of Hwy. 7 and 9 and be 19 years or older. Prospective firefighters can pick up an application at the Village of Harrison Hot Springs office, 495 Hot Springs Road, or download the application at https://bit.ly/3FUj4dp. People with questions can contact the fire department at 604-796-9966 or by email at infohhsfd@harrisonhotsprings.ca.
