UPDATE at 8:20 a.m.— CHILLIWACK — Highway 1 has reopened to westbound traffic following its closure overnight.

The closure was caused by floodwaters that covered the highway, closing the roadway in both directions.

The water also deposited debris on the highway over the course of the night.

Work to clear the eastbound lanes of the highway and restore complete access between the Fraser Valley and the B.C. Interior.

In the meantime, DriveBC is recommending travellers consider using detours along Highway 9 and Highway 7.

CHILLIWACK — Heavy rain has led to flooding on the main highway linking the Lower Mainland to the B.C. Interior.

DriveBC reported the closure shortly after midnight Sunday (Nov. 5) because of “a significant amount of water” on the highway.

The problem is located in the Bridal Falls area, between turn-off to Highway 9 and the turn-off to Hope.

DriveBC is recommending motorists use detours along Highway 9 and Highway 7 to get around the flooding.

It’s not clear when the road will be reopened but DriveBC is updating the situation regularly on its social media channels.
