COQUITLAM — The City of Coquitlam is receiving $4.4 million from Ottawa to support a project that Infrastructure Canada says will minimize the risk of future flooding.
The department says the project, which involves reconstructing a street and building a drainage channel parallel to Partington Creek, will reduce the number of residents without essential services or access to the road during heavy rains.
Dennis Marsden, acting mayor of Coquitlam, says the Cedar Drive upgrade is among the largest infrastructure projects currently underway in the city.
The statement from Infrastructure Canada adds that every dollar invested in climate adaptation can save as much as 15 dollars in future costs.
