Watson installed as Chief of Abbotsford Police Department
ABBOTSFORD — Colin Watson has officially taken over as the Chief Constable of the Abbotsford Police Department. Watson was named to the post in August with the retirement of Mike Serr this month.
In an official ceremony Thursday (Nov. 2) in Abbotsford, Mayor Ross Siemens signed the paperwork to make the change official. In his first speech in the position, the new chief highlighted his commitment to honour the past while working hard in the present, believing it will pave the way to a bright future.
Watson served as the Abbotsford Police Deputy to Chief Serr before being named to the post. He has 26 years of experience as a police officer. His academic background includes a Masters of Laws from Osgood Hall Law School, a Masters of Public Administration from the University of Texas, and a Bachelor of Arts focusing on Criminology and Administrative Studies. He also holds a designation as a Chartered Professional in Human Resources.
At the time of the announcement in August, Mayor Siemens said, “Chief Watson’s extensive experience in policing, as a practitioner and leader, along with his progressive and collaborative approach will serve the department and community well.”
