Surrey RCMP investigating possible hate crime directed at Jewish residence
SURREY — Mounties in Surrey say they are investigating a case of mischief that may have been motivated by hate.
According to a statement from Corporal Vanessa Munn, media relations officer, Surrey RCMP received a report Friday night (Oct. 13) that a residence that provides services to Jewish communities had been egged and a swastika symbol was drawn, or located, on the building. A male suspect was seen leaving the area on foot.
According to Cpl. Munn, Surrey RCMP frontline officers attended the area and conducted patrols for the suspect, however he was not located. The Surrey RCMP General Investigation Unit has assumed conduct of the investigation and BC Hate Crimes Unit has been notified.
The suspect is described as a 25-35 year-old male, slim to medium build, wearing a purple coat, white shirt, black “Adidas” sweatpants and brown shoes.
