CHILLIWACK — It’s a family tradition that April Blais and her family have adopted and maintained for over a decade now, and it’s back for another year in Chilliwack as one of the most intricate Halloween displays in town.

Kipp Manor, as it is formally known, is located at 45512 Kipp Avenue on the north side of town. And while it was nearly derailed by local youth and juveniles who vandalized it over the Thanksgiving long weekend, the display appears to be fully restored and fixed with skeletons, witches, tombstones and assorted other spooky figures to boot.

Even after the family moved to Chilliwack three years ago, they had no plans to give up the family tradition of going all out for Halloween.

“We lived in Abbotsford up until we moved here in 2020 when we bought our first house,” Blais said last year. “Last year, we decided to create our walk-through experience for people to enjoy. Last year was also our first year of collecting food bank donations at Halloween. Prior to that we had only collected donations with our Christmas displays and to our surprise we received far more donations at Halloween than at Christmas.”

In 2022, they collected $255 in cash donations and an entire truck bed full of food donations for the Chilliwack Salvation Army food bank. There will be a donation bin right out in front of the home for people who want to pitch in to help local families.

“It keeps getting busier every year, which we’re grateful for,” said Blais. “We’ve already had a good amount of donations just this opening weekend. I’m hoping we surpass last year. As for the display, this year I put about four weeks of setup into it and added some new scares as well as a black light spider tunnel we made. It’s the most detailed display to date. It’s definitely come a long way from when we first started. We keep the outer perimeter more kid friendly and the real scares are along the path.”
