Small plane crashes near Chilliwack airport

UPDATE: 5:50 P.M. CHILLIWACK — Three people have been killed in a small plane crash in Chilliwack. RCMP say in a statement the plane crashed not far from the airport in Chilliwack, about 100 kilometres east of Vancouver.
The Transportation Safety Board says it is sending a team of investigators to the site in the Fraser Valley.
Haylie Morris was at work sitting in a forklift when she saw the plane pass right in front of her and says she knew it was flying much too low.
She says the plane slammed down right beside the Chilliwack Motor Inn.
The plane’s registration number seen in photos from the crash site show that the Piper PA34 belongs to SkyQuest Aviation, a flight school based in nearby Langley.

UPDATE: 3:30 p.m.: CHILLIWACK — A small plane has crashed beside a hotel in Chilliwack. Haylie Morris, who works nearby, was on a forklift at about 2:15 p.m. today when she says she watched the plane fly right in front of her.

Morris says she knew right away the plane was too low and began running as she watched it go through trees and crash beside the Chilliwack Motor Inn, just south of Chilliwack Municipal Airport.

Morris says she and a co-worker called 911 and directed emergency vehicles through a field at the back of the inn to the crash site.

BC Emergency Health Services dispatched a series of ambulances to the scene however the status of the plane’s occupants is not known.

The registration number on the plane’s tail, seen in local media photos, indicates the aircraft is a Piper Seneca owned by the SkyQuest Aviation, a flight school based in Langley.

It’s not known how many people were aboard, but the twin-engined Seneca model can carry a pilot and up to six passengers.

CHILLIWACK — B.C. Emergency Health Services has sent five ambulances to the scene of an apparent plane crash near the Chilliwack Airport around Young Road.

The small plane went down early this afternoon around 2 p.m.

Social media reports suggest there was more than one person on board.

The status of the occupants in the plane is not known.

According to a witness, the plane crashed into some trees behind the Chilliwack Motor Inn, about one and a half blocks south of the airport runway.
