LANGLEY — For the second time in less than three weeks, a pedestrian has been hit by a vehicle in Langley.

On Monday, October 2, at just before 8 p.m., Langley RCMP received a report of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle at the intersection of 202 Street and 64 Avenue. According to a statement from Mounties in Langley, officers arrived and found Emergency Health Services (EHS) and Township of Langley Fire Department on scene communicating with a female who was pinned under the front of a white Chevrolet pick up truck.

Investigators have determined that the driver of the white pick up truck had been driving west on 64 Avenue approaching 202 Street. The pedestrian was crossing 202 street. The white pick up made the right turn onto 202 Street, colliding with the pedestrian.

Firefighters extracted the trapped female, a 21-year-old from Surrey. She continued to communicate with first responders and was taken to hospital by EHS to be further assessed.

The driver of the pick up, a 46-year-old man from Langley, was identified at the scene. At this point in the investigation, causes and factors contributing to the collision have not been determined; police continue to investigate.

In mid-September, Mounties in Langley said a 24-year-old woman died after being struck by a car on 64 Street in Langley. Alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor in the fatal accident.

Langley RCMP were notified by BC Emergency Health Services on Thursday night, September 14 at 7:15 p.m. that a pedestrian had been hit by a car on 64 Avenue near 258 Street. Frontline officers responded to the scene where Township of Langley Fire Department and EHS were providing emergency first aid to the pedestrian, a 24-year-old woman.

Initial investigation indicated the driver of a 2018 BMW was travelling west on 64 Avenue. According to a statement from Mounties, the driver lost control of his vehicle just before 258 Street and began swerving, colliding with the pedestrian who had been walking westbound along the shoulder of 64 Avenue. Unfortunately, the pedestrian succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

Police said the driver and lone occupant of the BMW remained on scene. Although the cause of the collision is still being determined, alcohol is believed to have been a contributing factor.

Langley RCMP Criminal Collision Investigation Team (CCIT) and the Integrated Crash Analyst Reconstruction Services (ICARS) were called out and attended the scene.
