Winter tire regulations begin Sunday for Coquihalla, Okanagan Connector

MERRITT, B.C. — Drivers who are planning to traverse high mountain highways in B.C. should remember to look at their calendars.

Merritt RCMP are reminding motorists that winter tires are required for the Coquihalla, the Okanagan Connector, and the Hope – Princeton highway starting today, October 1.

The requirement will remain in place until April 30. Certain highways that do not go through mountain passes will see the requirement end on March 31.

While snow may not yet have fallen in valley bottoms, it is not uncommon for snow to hit higher routes much sooner.
