RCMP release details of regimental funeral for Constable Rick O’Brien in Langley

LANGLEY — The B.C. RCMP has released details around the regimental funeral for Constable Frederick “Rick” O’Brien. The funeral will be held Wednesday, October 4 at 2 p.m. at the Langley Events Centre in Langley.

The regimental funeral will include a procession, and a memorial service concluding with a final salute for Cst. O’Brien.

Members of the public are invited to watch the RCMP procession as uniformed first responders march northbound on 202a Street from 76 Avenue towards the Langley Events Centre. The procession will lead to the some restrictions and road closures for the duration of the funeral including 80th Avenue, between 200 Street and 204 Street; 76 Avenue, between 200 Street and 202a Street; and 202a Street, between 74B Avenue and 80 Avenue.

The RCMP says it is working with local groups, schools and businesses that may be directly impacted by the service.

In addition those requiring access to the gymnastics club, the sports clinic, the tennis centre and other activities with the Langley Events Centre complex are being asked to use the 200 Street entrance for entering and exiting the facility.

Seating at the venue has been reserved for family, invited guests, designated officials and uniformed first responders participating in the funeral march.

Rather than offering gifts or flowers, Mounties are asking the public to wear red on October 4 to recognize and remember Cst. O’Brien for his ultimate sacrifice in service of his community.
