Former Sardis Bottle Depot location facing likely demolition

CHILLIWACK — Well, that didn’t take long.

About five weeks after the former Sardis Bottle Depot location closed its doors for good in August at 45635 Lark Road just off Vedder Road, a bobcat excavator could be seen in front of the shuttered facility. Building debris was located on the ground and parts of the building were exposed, including what appeared to be yellow insulation.

The new Sardis Bottle Depot opened up on Friday, August 18 next to the Canada Post location in the northeast corner of the former Canadian Tire parking lot, at 7592 Vedder Road, in Sardis.

The former bottle depot location is situated just behind the Royal Canadian Legion building. Homeless individuals and other loiterers have sporadically congregated in the area behind the bottle depot, or vandalized the facility with assorted graffiti messages.

The former bottle depot was reportedly once a Vedder Crossing government-licensed liquor store and a Salvation Army thrift store.
