CHILLIWACK — Oliver Genest’s goal with 1:56 left in the second period stood up as the game winner as the Victoria Grizzlies beat the Chilliwack Chiefs 4 – 3 Saturday (Sept. 23) night at the Chilliwack Coliseum.

Brian Morse opened the scoring for the Chiefs just 83 seconds into the game with his first goal of the season. However, the Grizzlies answered back with two goals to carry a 2 – 1 lead into the first intermission.

The Chiefs tied it on Mateo Mrsic’s quick wrist shot from the top of the faceoff circle at the 6:31 mark of the second period. The Grizzlies regained the lead nearly 6 minutes later, but once again, the Chiefs tied the game when Nathan Morin danced through the Grizzlies defence before beating Oliver Auyeung-Ashton in the Victoria net.

The game looked like it would be tied after forty minutes until Genest struck with the game winner late in the second period.
