Late game heroics give Chilliwack Chiefs a win in season opener

LANGLEY — Brady Milburn scored with 92 seconds left in regulation time to lift the Chilliwack Chiefs to a 5 – 4 win over the Langley Rivermen on the opening night of the BCHL season. The goal capped a dramatic comeback for the Chiefs who trailed by 3 goals at one point in the game.

Langley opened the scoring just 3.31 into the first period when Vitaly Levyy notched the first goal of the year. The Chiefs answered back just 8 seconds later when Nico Grabas pulled Chilliwack back on even terms. However, the rest of the period was dominated by the Rivermen. They scored three times to take a 4 – 1 into the first break.

Chilliwack answered back in the second. Dylan Kinch scored 25 seconds into the period. Then Stone Rolston scored twice later in the period to even the game after 40 minutes. Rolston’s second goal came while the Chiefs were shorthanded.

Vladimir Nikitin stopped 30 of 34 shots in the Chiefs net while Max Beckford faced 32 shots in the Langley net.
