CHILLIWACK — The Chilliwack School District transportation department continues to process an estimated 700 bus registrations still outstanding in the third week of the 2023-24 school year.

According to a letter from the Chilliwack School District dated September 21 and posted on the Chilliwack District Parent Advisory Council Facebook page, the SD33 transportation department notified Chilliwack DPAC that it received approximately 4,000 bus registrations for the 2023-24 school year.

“As of now (Sept. 21, we have received a total of 4,000 bus registrations. Half of these registrations, a total of 2,000, were submitted before the deadline of July 31, 2023. These registrations were processed and ready for the start of the school year.”

Chilliwack School District says its staff have processed all applications received up to Friday, September 15, just under a week ago. However, approximately 700 registrations require additional information to be completed, like a student picture or updated address.

“We understand the urgency and importance of resolving these outstanding registrations. Our transportation department is actively reaching out to the parents/caregivers of these 700 registrations, requesting the necessary information to finalize their applications. We are streamlining our efforts to expedite this process and aim to complete the remaining registrations as soon as possible.”

The district wrote to Chilliwack DPAC that it appreciated their ongoing cooperation and understanding as “we work diligently to resolve this matter and improve our processes to prevent similar delays in the future.”

Several Chilliwack parents have posted on Facebook in the past month stating they still had not received their bus pass while claiming they had registered ahead of the July 31 deadline.
