HOPE — While most of Silver Skagit Road south of Hope is closed due to more than 38 flood-damaged sites along the route following massive flooding in late 2021, the province provided an update Monday that forecasts reopening of additional sections of Silver Skagit Road by April 2024.

According to an update from the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, Silver Skagit Road is expected to reopen on April 15, 2024 for public use, though construction activities will remain along the route during construction season in 2024 and into 2025. The provincial government says construction will continue at sites from 32.7 km to 55.0 km.

As it sits today, Silver Skagit Road is open to the public from the intersection with Flood Hope Road to 6.3 km (West Fork Road). Silver Lake Campground and Silver Lake Provincial Park are open to public access. However, Silver Skagit Road is closed to traffic from 6.3 km to 58 km (Canada/USA border). Maintenance work is ongoing on Silver Skagit Road (0 km to 6.3 km) and West Fork to Silver Lake Provincial Park. For 2023, road repair and embankment armoring work continues south of the construction gate at 6.3 km at flood damaged sites along the route with final construction completed from 6.3 km to 34.5 km.

On-site construction began in April 2023 and will continue until a seasonal shutdown that is anticipated for late November 2023. Geotechnical and hydrotechnical assessments are complete and continue to support during construction.
