CHILLIWACK — The charitable arm of the association representing full-time firefighters in Chilliwack has made a magnanimous donation to a downtown Chilliwack non-profit that helps young families in crisis.

Meadow Rose Society, located at 45789 Spadina Avenue near the Chilliwack Museum, has been awarded $3,000 thanks to the generosity of the Chilliwack Professional Firefighters Local 2826 Charitable Society.

“We appreciate the support, which allows us to provide for the needs of families in our community with children three years of age and under,” Meadow Rose said on social media. “Thank you for choosing our organization and recognizing the importance of what we do and how it blesses the families we serve. Thank you for all you do to serve our community and keep us safe!”

Earlier this year, Meadow Rose Family Help Center Society, as it is formally known, named Jackie Kingma as its new executive director.

Kingma replaced Sheila Friesen, who recently retired as executive director of Meadow Rose Society, which was first founded in 2011 and later became a registered Canadian charity in 2013. The downtown Chilliwack charity provides essentials for children three and under in Chilliwack and Hope, and whose families are in financial crisis.

In September 2022, the organization’s small office facility suffered a small fire to the rear of its building. It has since rebounded and grown stronger thanks to a Giving Tuesday fundraiser that raised $3,020 in November 2022, and was the recipient of over $2,400 from Main Street Church in Chilliwack in late 2022. The church held a women’s breakfast event, selected Meadow Rose as its charity, and donated $1,595 in baby supplies along with $880 in cash.

The society also held an open house in December 2022 at its facility on Spadina.
