Arrest made in connection with July homicide in Mission
MISSION — Charges have been laid in connection the July killing of 42-year-old Jesse Kennedy of Mission. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) says 37-year-old John Powers has been charged with second-degree murder.
Mission RCMP were initially called to an area of the 32500 block of Lougheed Highway on July 13 at 5:52 p.m. Powers was taken into custody shortly after police found Kennedy suffering from a stab wound. He was taken to hospital but passed away from his injuries.
IHIT says it worked closely in partnership with the Mission RCMP, the BC Coroners Service, the RCMP Integrated Forensic Identification Section (IFIS) and the RCMP Tactical Troop in the case.
“This charge is a direct result of the great work done by the members of the Mission RCMP and the IHIT investigative team,” said Sgt. Timothy Pierotti, of IHIT. “Anyone affected by this tragedy in need of help can contact the Mission RCMP’s Victim Services.”
