Fire in Hope burns home Tuesday night

HOPE — The Hope Fire Department was dispatched to the Silver Creek area of Hope Tuesday night after a fire erupted in a neighbourhood just south of Highway 1.

A fire broke out at a home near the area of Marie Street and Old Yale Road sometime after 7 p.m. Tuesday (Aug. 22), according to witness Meadow Ouellet, who added that one home had just been built and completed this year.

At least four engines from the Hope Fire Department were deployed to fight the massive blaze. Hope firefighters controlled the fire by 8:25 p.m. Tuesday, Ouellet estimated.

Multiple videos shared by Ouellet show flames destroying one home. Flames easily exceeded 10 feet from one home, illustrating the extent of the raging blaze.

Fraser Valley Today has reached out to Hope Fire Chief Thomas Cameron for details on the fire. No press release had been issued as of 8:42 a.m. Wednesday morning.
