Chilliwack River Valley Fire Dept. crews deployed to fight fires throughout BC, including Osoyoos
CHILLIWACK —Volunteer firefighters from the Chilliwack River Valley Fire Department have answered the call to help battle fires in what has become a record-breaking wildfire season across British Columbia.
The Chilliwack River Valley Fire Department, an all-volunteer rural fire department east of Chilliwack on Chilliwack Lake Road, will be sending three of its fire personnel to help fight a fire in Osoyoos.
In a social media post today (Tuesday, August 1), the CRVFD said it will be deploying a three-man crew of captain Justin Daly, training officer Keagan Munro and firefighter Jay Wang.
It’s doing so at the request of the province and BC Wildfire, the Facebook post indicated.
“The truck just returned from Seaton Portage, but our team of dedicated volunteers is proud to serve and answer the call,” CRVFD wrote on Facebook. “Safe travels and deployment!”
Prior to Tuesday’s deployment, Chilliwack River Valley Fire Department Chief Mike Danyluk says captain Chris Westrop and firefighters Ryan Hannah and Daryl Shannon were deployed to fight the Burns Lake fire from July 10-17, while crew leader Tegan Luckham, training officer Kevin Corbett and firefighter Daryl Shannon were deployed from July 21-31 to combat the Seaton Portage fire. A second rotation consisting of training officer Keagan Munro and firefighters Trevor Alcos and Jay Wang were also dispatched to the Seaton Portage fire.
According to a report from the Canadian Press dated July 31, British Columbia’s wildfire season is the most destructive on record, with more than 15,000 square kilometres of the province burned, surpassing the previous high of 13,543 square kilometres set in 2018.
