VANCOUVER — The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) is working hard to keep up with a growing number of wildfires across the province.

The Ross Moore Lake wildfire south of Kamloops has put the B.C. Interior city on edge. Large dark plumes of smoke stretched across the city as the fire exploded in size to 450 hectares Saturday afternoon. By Sunday morning, the BCWS said the fire had grown to 1,800 hectares.

49 properties just south of Kamloops have been ordered to evacuate while an area within the southeast boundary of the city, has been placed under an Evacuation Alert.

Meantime the BCWS is asking the public to stay away from the 40-square kilometre fire burning near the city of Cranbrook.
