Hydro lines down following crash near busy Abbotsford intersection

ABBOTSFORD — The intersection of Marshall Road and Sumas Way is expected to be partially closed through Friday (Jul. 21) following an unusual morning crash.

Abbotsford Police say they were called to the area on a report that a semi-trailer, transporting an extra wide load, had collided with a hydro pole along Sumas Way.

Police immediately closed the Sumas Way in both directions because of the danger posed by low-hanging hydro lines across the asphalt. Sumas Way is blocked between Lonzo Road and Marshall Road.

After the initial investigation, police ruled out impairment and high speed as possible causes of the crash. The provincial Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement office is also on the scene to conduct a full inspection of the truck hauling the load. It is expected to determine the exact cause.
